When they got back to the Chaweng police station Sergeant Chakrii told Son that the colonel wanted to see him but he was very courteous and without his usual smirk and snide remarks. Son gave a heavy sigh and thought, why can’t the man just leave him alone and let him get on with solving the case?

Once again, he knocked on the colonel's door and entered. The colonel told him to come in and sit down.

“Tomorrow is the funeral of Kanchana Saengkaew-Collins. There will be some dignitaries from Bangkok’s OAG and the Deputy Police Minister will also be there as will I. I also expect that there will be some officials from the British Embassy. As you are the officer in charge of the investigation, I want you to be there also.” He handed Son a slip of paper with the details.

Son read it and told the colonel that he would be there and turned around to leave. “Before you go Lieutenant Sinuan in the morning, I want a full written report of where you are up to in the investigation that I can present to the deputy police minister to take back to the police minister on his return to Bangkok after the funeral. It would also be good if the man Mongkut Rueng that you have in custody was charged with Kanchana Saengkaew-Collin's murder before the funeral” Son walked out without comment.
